The Fresh Start Contest Winners Are...

For the past three months, we've been accepting responses to our Fresh Start Contest question, "What forum, blog or technical mailing lists do you belong to?"
We'd like to thank everyone who responded and are excited to announce the winners.

First Prize

One round-trip domestic ticket on Frontier Airlines goes to Bruno Langevin of DMR Conseil. Congratulations, Bruno!

Second Prize

  Compusa
$100 gift certificates to CompUSA will go to Chris Brown of Swoki.com and Pierre of AKNT Technologies. Congratulations, Chris and Pierre!

And the question for the next round is...

“I’ve had a couple of ISPs mention the possibility that government mandated data retention might be coming soon. Considering this, should we put this data retention capability in the NetEqualizer?”
-Art Send us your thoughts and automatically be entered into our quarterly prize drawing. The responses to our last question were great, and this time around you’re chances of winning will be even better! In May, we’ll be giving away four $100 gift certificates to CompUSA to our first prize winners and $50 gift certificates to Car Toys to our four second prize winners.

Send your answers to admin@apconnections.net. Put "Contest" in the subject line and you will be entered to win. The deadline to respond will be May 2, 2007. As always, we value and appreciate your feedback.

New Release Is Out!

Our latest NetEqualizer release is out! This new version:
  • Allows for up to 11,000 entries in the connection table Allows up to 8,000 hard limits Allows minor fixes to connection limits, making them more robust Offers support for new license levels

We are also in final stages of testing "The Beast." This is a dual 3.4 gigahertz Pentium based NetEqualizer that will handle 11,000 users and 350 megabits of traffic. The model number will be NE3000- 350.

Free NetEqualizer Seminar This Month!

On Tuesday, February 27 from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m., Art will be hosting a free seminar on APconnections technology at Macalester College in Minneapolis. The seminar will be divided into two parts, with the first providing an overview of the NetEqualizer and the second focusing on advanced technical training. This will be a great opportunity for existing and potential customers to see the full capabilities of the NetEqualizer. If you're in the area, be sure not to miss it!

For more details, contact us via e-mail at admin@apconnections.net or give us a call at 303-997-1300, extension 102. We look forward to hearing from you.

Spring Blowout Party Is Coming Soon!

Although the snow continues to fall here in Colorado, spring is just around the corner and that means the APconnections Spring Blowout Party is approaching fast. As usual, you’re all invited!

The 4th anniversary celebration will mark our success over the past four years and show our gratitude for all of our customers, vendors and resellers. There will be a free tech and training session in the morning and we hope to get a national recording act to perform as the day winds down. And, of course, they’ll be plenty of food and spirits.

Give us a heads up now if you’re interested in attending. The celebration will be held in the Denver metro area and we’ll have more details soon. Plan to be there. It will be electrifying!

Tips & Tricks

Every month we try to write something interesting for the Tips & Tricks section and this month is no different. For those of you who read the newsletter and like techie stuff we have a special treat: the reincarnation of the Content Filter. I must caveat this with all the appropriate warnings such as use at your own risk, but if you can get past that you can really have some fun.

Suppose you wanted to block any Web site with the content “Comcast high speed Internet.” Perhaps you are wireless provider and don't want you customers shopping the competition.

Here is how you do it.

  • From the misc->run command "/art/CONTENT_FILTER block_comcast comcast*internet" This will create a content filter named "block_comcast" that will block any Web page with the word Comcast followed by any number of words and characters and the word Internet. That should do it.
  • Then to activate, you'll see a line created in your /etc/arbdefault.conf file with a # sign commenting it out. Simply uncomment the line and do a soft reset and then try the Comcast page... blocked!
