NetEqualizer Now Fully VLAN Compatible! |
|
| |
|
It’s finally here! Our newest NetEqualizers are now shipping with full VLAN support. This means that NetEqualizers are fully compatible with VLAN traffic.
Best of all, if you already have a NetEqualizer, there is nothing to adjust or change should you convert your network to VLANs. The NetEqualizer will adjust automatically. You can also mix VLAN and non-VLAN tagged traffic without issue.
If you are thinking about running the NetEqualizer with VLANs, call our support or sales teams for details at 1-800-918-2763.

For customers who need to push more than 5,000 users, we have also recently optimized our Linux Kernel internals. We expect to do some beta tests with high-end customers this week. What this optimization will do is allow existing and future NetEqualizer customers to handle more users at one time without using more expensive hardware.
At NetEqualizer, we are always working to uphold our pledge to offer the most affordable bandwidth shaper on the market.

How do you test your network configurations? Do you know how your network will behave if you add 100 more users or deploy VOIP? Candela Technologies ( http://www.candelatech.com/) specializes in emulating network traffic including VOIP and VLANs. We use their emulation equipment in our labs to generate load tests before we release any beta version. The folks at Candela Tech were key to the development and release of our VLAN feature.

Twice a year, our CEO will be traveling to metro areas around the United States to do an in-depth seminar on our equipment. Although the NetEqualizer is turn- key in its default mode, it’s always fun to dig down into the details of how things work.
Last week, we had a very successful gathering at Macalester College thanks to our sponsor Ted Fines. We received excellent feedback from the attendees, who left the seminar better informed and ready to use NetEqualizer to its full potential.
If you’d like to learn more about how you can sponsor a future seminar in your area, contact us at 1-800-918- 2763. All you need is a facility that’s convenient to the surrounding metro area, and we’ll do the rest.

Do you have congestion at your access points? Yes, we are working to come up with a new retail offering of our AirEqualizer, but until then, you should know that you can actually relieve congestion at an access point from the head of your network if you own a NetEqualizer.
Here’s how:
- You must know the IP addresses of all of the users sharing the access point.Use the NetEqualizer pool feature and create a pool with an up/down bandwidth threshold in accordance with your average throughput of your access point. In reality what we have noticed is that most access points B/G seem to end up putting out about 1.5 megabits, so if in doubt, use this number.
- Once you have created a pool add the IP addresses into the pool.
That's all you need to do. The NetEqualizer will automatically initiate congestion control when the throughput at the access point approaches 1.5 megabits. The effect of this feature will keep weaker premise nodes from getting locked out.
